Carers Support Service

We offer a variety of services for carers, free of charge. This Carer Support Service can be accessed as much or as little as needed, and carers can dip in and out as their needs change. The support helps provide the skills, knowledge and strength carers need to cope with the changes in their family. In turn, this will have a positive effect on the person with the brain injury. Further, we provide a space for carers to take the time out for themselves and hear from others with similar experiences.

Our services include:

  • Crisis advice and support – people can visit us for information and resources, or book a one-to-one appointment. Alternatively, we can visit people on hospital wards, or in their homes.
  • Information and resources – for example those on the national Headway website.
  • One-to-one support – available both in person and over the telephone.
  • Support with independent living.
  • Providing invaluable respite for families and carers of people with brain injury.

We also run a monthly Care and Connect group, open to anyone affected by brain injury (including carers). It takes place on the second Tuesday of the month, 7pm–9pm at the Wellspring Settlement (in the same building as the Wellspring Surgery). This is at Beam Street, Barton Hill, Bristol, BS5 9QY.

Most services are delivered directly by Headway Bristol. In other cases, we may signpost and refer to relevant and appropriate organisations.
