This page explains how families and individuals can access the services we provide. Professionals should read the information here.
Initial crisis response
When a family member or close individual has experienced an acquired brain injury, it can be an incredibly difficult time. Headway offers a range of free services to support families and individuals. We offer a free crisis support service, for when your loved one is in hospital.
Ongoing support
We offer additional rehabilitation services for individuals over 18 years with a confirmed diagnosis of a brain injury. This includes our one-to-one outreach services, and our well-being and reablement centres.
Funded services
If the individual lives in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, and has limited savings (each local council specifies a different amount), it’s possible your local council will fund access to the services.
If you already have a social worker or case manager, please ask them to get in touch with Headway Bristol. If you don’t have a social worker, contact us and we can help refer you to one.
Privately funded services
If an individual has savings above their local council’s specified amount, then it’s unlikely the council will fund access to the service. However, you can still access our services privately. To do this, please get in touch with us directly. If you live outside of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucester, but still want to access our services, then please contact us.
Other support
We offer a free carers support service, helping to share the skills, knowledge and strength carers need to cope when loved ones are affected by brain injury.
We also offer a free social hub service for all individuals with a brain injury.
Our parent organisation Headway UK also offers a range of resources to help, including an emergency fund and support with issues relating to justice and the law.
