Headway Annual Awards 2025 – now’s the time to nominate someone special

Each year, Headway UK hosts a national awards ceremony to celebrate the dedication, growth and outstanding achievements of brain injury survivors, carers, volunteers and others in the Headway community.

Nominations for the awards will close on 22 July – so there’s still time to highlight the achievements and efforts of someone special. This year there are five categories:

  • Alex Richardson Achiever of the Year
  • Carer of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Stephen McAleese Outstanding Contribution to Headway Award
  • The Headway Extra Mile Award – for staff working in local Headway charities

There’s more detail about the awards and the nomination process, along with tips for writing great nominations, on the Headway UK website.

In the past, Headway Bristol has nominated individuals who have gone on to win awards, and we’re currently reflecting on who we might put forward in 2025.

The finalists (plus guests) will be invited to a celebratory lunch at the Royal Lancaster in London on Friday 12 December 2025.

So get thinking! Choose someone inspiring and do them justice with a vivid, genuine nomination that helps the judges understand the journey, the challenges and their achievements.

  • What’s their story? For example, explain what was life was like before and after the brain injury, and the obstacles they have overcome.
  • Be specific! For example, say how long they’ve volunteered for, the sacrifices they’ve made and the milestones they’ve reached.
  • What’s their impact? Say, for instance, how they’ve inspired others, or the difference they’ve made in their community.
