When your loved one is in hospital due to a brain injury, Headway Bristol’s Hospital Navigators provide crisis support to help you with:
- Understanding brain injury – helping you make sense of medical terminology and the effects a brain injury may have on your loved one.
- Emotional and practical support – offering guidance during this challenging time.
- Acting as a link between your family and hospital staff to improve communication.
- Financial and legal guidance – assisting with welfare advice and signposting to legal support where appropriate.
- Rehabilitation pathways – helping you navigate the next steps in recovery.
Our Hospital Navigators visit the Intensive Care Unit and neurology wards at Southmead Hospital every Wednesday afternoon and regularly attend the neurology ward at Bristol Royal Infirmary. We also run a drop-in stand outside the neurology wards at both hospitals on these days, where you’re welcome to speak with us.
If you need support, call us directly at 07776 369507 (Monday-Thursday, 9.15 am-4.15 pm) or email [email protected]. Our team is friendly, approachable and always ready to listen. Please don’t be afraid to reach out – no worry is ever too small. Whether you need practical support, a listening ear, or just a safe space to let it all out, we’re here for you with empathy, understanding and care.

Support beyond hospital discharge
Leaving the hospital is just the beginning of the recovery journey. Headway Bristol continues to support and guide families as they adjust to life after brain injury.
While many people with a brain injury can recover and lead independent lives, families often notice changes in their loved one’s personality, behaviour or ability to function as they once did. These adjustments can be challenging, but you don’t have to face them alone – we’re here to help, every step of the way.
