This section gives you details of the latest paid vacancies and volunteer roles at Headway Bristol.

12 month Fixed Term Contract Initially

£18,500 per annum pro rata – 16 hours per week

With a 40 year history behind us in Bristol, we are proud of our roots and achievements, supporting brain injured survivors and their families and carers from our base on the former Frenchay Hospital site. Our core services include a community outreach support service, day centre and carers support service and behind the scenes we have a dedicated team of business support staff who ensure that all our services and support systems run smoothly.

Following a restructure of our organisation and focus on continuous improvements to the way we run the Charity, we are now recruiting for the new post of part time Business Support Assistant. Reporting to the Corporate Services Director, this person will assist across all areas of the Charity, in particular: HR, Finance, Fundraising and Facilities.

The post holder will be primarily responsible for supporting business systems and processes, with an emphasis on improving our quality standards, outcomes reporting and monitoring processes. They will support the managers and their teams with the recording of appropriate, accurate and meaningful information which is then collated to promote our services and update our local authority providers, supporters and funders.   It is therefore essential that you have competent typing and IT skills, with experience of creating and updating spreadsheets (MS Excel) and using other database software systems (training will be given on our bespoke systems).  You will be able to present accurate data in a clear, concise and meaningful format and have an eye for detail.

In addition to supporting the directors on projects, you will also be required to prepare papers for and take minutes at our Trustee Board meetings outside of normal office hours (time off in lieu will be given for this – 6 times a year) and help with Charity fundraising events, our AGM, recruitment and information stands.

Above all, you will be a warm, enthusiastic and charity-focused individual who seeks to be the best support they can in their job. A willing, flexible and friendly approach is required, with a good sense of humour as at times workloads and deadlines can be quite pressurised!

It would be a distinct advantage if you have previous experience of working in a similar role within the Charity sector but this is by no means essential.   However, in the main we are looking for a person who has the skills and experience to work largely unsupervised, with good time management and work prioritisation skills.  Due to the nature of the work, you will also be mindful of maintaining discretion and confidentiality.

Qualifications: A qualification in Business Administration or similar would be useful along with a minimum 5 GCSE’s including passes in Maths and English. The post is subject to a DBS check and satisfactory references.   Whilst this role is primarily office-based, it would be helpful if you could drive and have your own transport to assist with our external activities (mileage paid).

Hours: Our services are delivered Monday to Friday from 9.00am-5.00pm. This post is offered on a part time basis, working 16 hours a week between these times and on agreed days and hours to suit between Monday to Friday. We are flexible and will consider a spread of these hours across the 5 days or over 2½ days.  This post is offered initially on a 12 month fixed term contract, with a 6 month probationary review.   Consideration thereafter will be given to the role becoming permanent, with a potential to increase hours if needed, and dependent upon future funding.

Salary & Benefits:   Salary commences on £18,500 per annum pro rata (£8,453 per annum based on 16 hours a week).  We offer 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata), time off in lieu, free parking and a stakeholder pension. Our staff induction, training and development programme, will ensure that you remain up to date on all your key skills and experience.
