PART TIME SUPPORT OUTREACH WORKERS

No two days are the same here at Headway Bristol for our Support Outreach Worker team. In addition to working in our modern Day Centre in Frenchay, planning and running activities (both group and one to one), they provide key one to one support for service users in the community as part of our growing Outreach Service.

As a member of our Charity’s support team you will work alongside paid and volunteer staff, providing social and cognitive rehabilitation to individuals with an acquired brain injury.   Your care and support skills will be put to good use, helping our service users regain their confidence and learn new skills.  We are looking for individuals who work well within a team, but who are also able to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm and the ability to work independently. Some personal care maybe involved in accordance with individual care plans.

Due to an increasing demand for our services and continued growth and expansion we are looking for people who live across the following geographic areas where we deliver our core services: Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and North/North East Somerset.

A full driving license and use of own car is essential for this role.

Qualifications: Minimum qualification required is Care Certificate and/or NVQ2 in Health & Social Care (and/or appropriate level of experience). The post is subject to a DBS check and satisfactory references.

Salary & Benefits: Hourly rate commences at £8.82 per hour (£16,056 pa full time) and rises to £9.04 per hour upon successful completion of a six month probationary period.  We offer 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata), time off in lieu, free parking, a stakeholder pension, regular training and development opportunities.

Hours: Our core services are delivered Monday to Friday 9.00am-5.00pm – although some flexibility is essential as there is a requirement to occasionally work an odd evening or weekend (these will be agreed with you in advance).  Our roles are offered on a part time basis, working a minimum of 21 hours and up to 30 hours a week. Flexibility to work any day is required, spreading your hours either across the 5 days, or as 3 or 4 full days.

As we would like to improve the ratio of male staff within our team we are keen to also receive applications from suitably qualified male support workers.

VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISING ASSISTANTS

We are keen to source volunteers to work on a variety of projects within our Fundraising team and if you have time to spare and are able to commit for at least 6 months then we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for talented, creative and passionate people who will help us promote our services and raise money for a fantastic cause.

As a Fundraising Volunteer, you will enjoy a varied workload, dependent upon your skills and experience which could include helping with corporate and community events planning and delivery, treasure hunting, researching venues, preparing reports and outcomes and developing our contact database. Duties may include:

  • Researching, collating and presenting information for future events
  • Collating and distributing marketing literature, member packs and alike
  • Sourcing gifts in kind, raffle prizes and donations for events
  • Running stalls and organising bucket collections
  • Updating and developing our contacts database
  • Helping to source venues and make bookings
  • Assisting with the creation flyers, marketing and promotions material

No experience of event work or fundraising is necessary, however; the ability to organise your time, work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with other volunteers, staff, supporters and the general public is essential. Good IT skills will be required and we use MS Office, In-Design and other database systems (training can be given).

  • A full driving license and access to a vehicle is desirable but not essential.
  • Full induction, training and on-going support will be provided as appropriate.
  • We are looking for volunteers who can work at least 4-5 hours on one day during the week (between 9-5) and people who are also looking to join our bank of volunteers for key dates in our events calendar which may include working evenings or weekends. We are happy to consider people who can work either weekly or fortnightly and with flexibility. You will be able to commit to at least 6 months.

VOLUNTEER TRUSTEES 

CHAIR and TREASURER 

HEADWAY BRISTOL is a successful, local charity with 40 years’ experience in providing social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury through our centre-based and one to one outreach services provided across Bristol, North and North East Somerset, and South Gloucestershire. We individually tailor programmes to improve quality of life, independence and self-esteem supporting people to maximise their independence.  We also offer support and respite for families and carers.

We have significantly grown and developed our services over recent years and now wish to strengthen our Board of Trustees and are therefore looking to recruit individuals who share our vision to help make a significant difference to the lives of people affected by brain injury. We are continuing to develop our services and expand our operations, and this year we are proud to be celebrating our 40th Anniversary.

Headway Bristol is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The role of a Trustee is an extremely important one and as a member of our Board you will have responsibility for the overall direction, vision and strategy of Headway Bristol working with and providing support to the full time CEO.  We are looking for people who can bring innovative ideas, enthusiasm for our values and excellent judgement to help determine our objectives.  You will be prepared to assist our organisation in taking on any future challenges and play a key role in our success.

Whilst we keep an open mind on your key skills and experience, we are hoping to appoint individuals who may have one or more of the following in their background:

  • Fundraising, PR, marketing and/or business development skills
  • Commissioning/Adult Care – ie Local Authorities, Health Service, etc
  • Business management, finance, law and/or governance
  • A connection with or experience of brain injury
  • Trustees/School Governor/Charity experience

In addition to the above, we are looking to bring on board two new trustees to cover the important roles of Chair and Treasurer/Company Secretary.

All roles are on a voluntary basis. Trustees will be expected to attend approximately 6 meetings each year, as well as our AGM, and the overall time commitment is equivalent to approximately one day per month.  We are hoping to co-opt people to the Board over the next few months – with them being formally elected to the Board at our Annual General Meeting next June.
